ACOUSTIC CALCULATOR

Improve the acoustics of your space

Our acoustic calculator is a simple tool to help you calculate the current acoustic performance of your space and understand how you can improve it using Focal Point acoustic solutions.

Get started below to assess the baseline reverberation time (RT60) of your space and select products to attenuate noise and reverberations in two easy steps.

To learn more about the fundamental principles of sound management, reverberation times and RT60 calculations, and strategies for designing for light and sound, consult our Acoustic Design Guide available from the Acoustic Solutions section of our website.

Our acoustic specialists are available at acoustic.solutions@focalpointlights.com to discuss how we can support your specific project.

Define your space

Enter the key parameters of your space to calculate your baseline RT60.

Select a room type from the drop-down menu below

Enter room dimensions rounded to the nearest foot.
Select up to two materials and percentages for each surface.

Current State of Your Space

The current reverberation times of your space (RT60) are depicted below for frequencies covering the human speech range. A recommended RT60 range is provided based on ASTM Standards.

DEFINITIONS
According to the ASTM standard, frequencies from 500-2000 Hertz (Hz) are the average frequency for human speech range.

Hertz (Hz) is a unit derived from time which measures frequency. Example: A frequency of 1 Hertz means that something happens once a second.

RT60 is defined as the time, in seconds, it takes sound in a reverberant environment to decay 60dB in level.

In accordance with ANSI S12.60-2010/Part 1. *The calculated numbers are representative of the simplified details that you have provided. Although the measured sound absorptive properties of the products and materials used in this analysis are based on standard ASTM measurement methods, the calculated RT's are also dependant on some assumptions about the characteristics of the sound field within the space. Since detailed architectural specifications are not being used, it can be expected that your actual experience may differ from these calculations based on 'as built' differences.
