Western Union has an illustrious heritage of innovation, starting in 1851 with a telegraph line connecting Buffalo to St. Louis and continuing a decade later with the debut of a transcontinental telegraph. Today, Western Union is the leading company for sending and receiving money internationally and its new headquarters had to reflect that leadership and innovative spirit.
Connectivity was the primary idea behind the design concept with the goal to break down the previous silos of enclosed offices to connect the 1,300 employees of the Denver location. Gensler also wanted to connect them to the places where Western Unions does business, worldwide. Community hubs, based on regions where the company has a significant presence, entice employees to experience spaces outside of their assigned locations. This global tour of destination amenities, spread over eight floors, is brought to light with ID+ 3.5" Downlights and a variety of Seem luminaires.
