When the non-profit Esperanza Health Centers built its new facility, located in the underserved Brighton Park neighborhood, on the southwest side of the city, it had a grand vision: a purpose-built facility that would combine healthcare, wellness activities, and a central oasis for community activities. The organization had a tight budget and instead of risking for the lighting to be value-engineered, Focal Point opted to be actively involved in a community, where many of its employees live, by donating the lighting.

Several luminaires were used throughout the space, including Focus Wall Wash which turns a feature wall of natural wood into the focal piece of the lobby. ID+ Cylinders and Downlights with matching apertures are paired for visual harmony in the mixed-ceiling space, with the cylinders providing added interest in the unfinished ceiling. Special attention was paid to lighting the therapy rooms, where Skydome luminaires were chosen for their ability to provide diffuse light and a calming environment. As in most modern spaces with unfinished ceilings, acoustics were also a concern. Focal Point’s Seem 1 Acoustic Unlit helped address noise abatement in waiting areas and corridors without requiring additional changes to the ceiling, while Seem 1 Direct provided striking illumination.
