In response to the shift towards case-based learning in medical education, the UCI Medical Education Building was renovated to create flexible, collaborative spaces that support hands-on, experiential learning. The redesign includes an Active Learning Center and smaller breakout rooms, all designed to foster teamwork, critical thinking, and interprofessional collaboration.

To enhance medical students' hands-on learning experience, Seem 4 LED Recessed luminaires are installed directly above each practice examination desk, providing optimal lighting for detailed work. These well-lit spaces ensure students have the best possible environment for learning medical procedures. In the lounge area, Seem 4 LED Direct fixtures are suspended in a zig-zag pattern, complementing the wooden accents of the ceiling while cleverly diverting attention from the HVAC systems. In the cafeteria seating lounge, each seating area is illuminated by Seem 2 LED perimeter, creating a soft wall-grazing effect. Along the walkway, ID+ 3.5” Cylinders are evenly spaced, ensuring uniform lighting for a comfortable and inviting passage.
