The newly built Thompson Elementary School proved to be an architectural challenge: it is located in a dense residential area where many students walk to school, approaching the building from multiple sides. The obstacle was addressed by incorporating two entry points into the main lobby where visitors are greeted with bold colors, geometric forms, curved walls, and dynamic patterns that provide a whimsical and welcoming atmosphere.

The playful theme is carried through to other common areas, such as the library, where large windows with built-in tiered seating allow sunlight to permeate the space while students read. Energy-efficient, recessed Skydome LED luminaires supplement the natural light while staying true to the theme, with their circular shape.
