The new global marketing office of this popular breakfast brand preserves the historic integrity of an iconic Chicago building: the Merchandise Mart. Over the course of 8 months, the space underwent a complete transformation from a dark, enclosed environment to a bright, modern, and functional office. Drywall was removed to reveal original brick walls, exposing the building’s natural character. Glass conference room walls were added to create an open, transparent feel while providing a sound barrier for private conversations. The sleek, modern form and local manufacturing were driving factors in selecting a combination of Nera linear and square pendant luminaires. The simple, yet intriguing light fixtures, used in continuous rows, stand-alone pieces, or clustered as chandeliers, provide general illumination while enhancing the architecture.
